The hill on which the pillar is erected was covered with temples and houses a long time before the Roman era. It was the place of the Citadel of Rhakotis. A temple was dedicated to Osiris-Serapis was built on the mountain.

FAQs

What is the best time to visit Egypt on a budget?

The best times for budget travel are the shoulder seasons (March-April and October-November), which offer a good balance of pleasant weather and lower prices than the peak winter months. For the absolute cheapest deals, consider the off-season (June-September). It is very hot, especially in Luxor and Aswan, but you’ll find significant discounts on tours and hotels.

How much does your Egypt budget tour?

Egypt Best Vacations Budget Tour Packages Price Range:

  • Short 4-day budget tours (e.g., Cairo & Luxor): from about $600 USD per person in a single room.

  • 5-day budget budget tours: often start around $650 USD per person in a single room.

  • 6-7 day Egypt budget tours: generally $700 – $800 USD depending on included activities like Nile or felucca cruises.

  • 8-10 day budget tours: typically $900 – $1000 USD per person in a single room.

  • 10+ day extended budget tours: often $12,00 USD+ for 10–15 days with more inclusions.

Are your cheap Egypt tours safe?

Yes. Egypt Best Vacations operates as a licensed Egyptian travel company, working with professional tour guides, certified drivers, and regulated transport services. Safety standards are followed on all organized tours.

Our cheap Egypt tours visit well-established, heavily monitored destinations such as, Cairo, Luxor, Aswan, Hurghada. These are Egypt’s main tourism corridors and are considered the safest parts of the country for visitors.

Every tour includes knowledgeable guides who:

  • Manage timing and logistics

  • Help you avoid tourist scams

  • Offer assistance in crowded areas

  • Provide support in case of emergencies

You are never left navigating major sites alone unless it’s scheduled free time.

Transportation is provided by licensed drivers using air-conditioned vehicles. For longer distances, organized train services will be arranged.

Even on safe budget tours:

  • You may experience persistent vendors near major attractions.

  • Tipping (baksheesh) is customary.

  • Crowded sites require awareness of personal belongings.

These are normal travel experiences, not safety threats.

How many people are there in your budget tour group?

Egypt Best Vacations provide small budget tours with maximum 16 people per group. This smaller group size ensures a more personal, comfortable, and well-organized travel experience while still keeping costs affordable. Small groups also enhance safety and service quality. Your tour guide can give more individual attention, answer questions in detail, and respond quickly if assistance is needed.

In addition, transportation is more comfortable, as smaller vehicles are used instead of large tour buses. This allows smoother access to historic areas and city streets, especially in busy destinations like Cairo and Luxor. With Egypt Best Vacations, you get the advantage of a budget-friendly price without sacrificing organization, comfort, or personal attention.

When should I book your Egypt budget tour to get the best price?

You’ll generally get better rates by booking at least 2–3 months in advance, and even earlier for peak months (October–April).

During high season, demand increases significantly for popular destinations such as Cairo, Luxor, and Aswan, as well as for Nile cruises between Luxor and Aswan. Hotels and cruise cabins often sell out quickly, especially from November through March when the weather is cooler and ideal for sightseeing.

Early booking also allows more time to arrange visas, travel insurance, and international flights at competitive prices. If you are planning to travel during Christmas, New Year, or Easter, it’s highly recommended to book 4–6 months in advance, as these dates are considered peak holiday periods in Egypt.

Do I need a visa for my Egypt budget tour?

Yes, most travelers require a visa to enter Egypt. Many nationalities can obtain an Egyptian tourist visa on arrival at major international airports such as Cairo International Airport, or apply in advance through the official Egyptian e-visa portal online (requirements vary by country).

The single-entry tourist visa is typically valid for 30 days. It is recommended to ensure your passport is valid for at least six months from your arrival date and has at least one blank page for the visa stamp. Travelers from certain countries may need to apply for a visa through an Egyptian embassy before departure, so checking official government sources prior to travel is always advised.

Egypt Best Vacations budget tours cover the main wonders of Egypt as:

  • Great Pyramids of Giza (Cairo)
  • Grand Egyptian Museum (Cairo)
  • The Roman Catacombs (Alexandria)
  • Valley of the Kings (Luxor)

You may also want to pack:

  • Lightweight, breathable clothing (especially for visits to Luxor and Aswan, where temperatures can be high).

  • A light jacket or sweater for cooler evenings in winter, particularly in Cairo.

  • Sunglasses with UV protection to handle the bright desert sun.

  • A small backpack for daily excursions to carry water and essentials.

  • Personal medications and basic first-aid items.

  • A scarf or shawl (useful for mosque visits or added sun protection).

Can I pay with credit cards during my budget trip to Egypt?

In big cities like CairoLuxor, and Alexandria, as well as in most hotels, restaurants, and larger shops, credit and debit cards are usually accepted.

However, in smaller towns, local cafés, bazaars, souvenir stalls, taxis, and traditional markets, cash is strongly preferred, especially in Egyptian Pounds (EGP). Many small vendors do not have card machines, and some may charge an extra fee for card payments.

It’s a good idea to carry small denominations for tips, entrance fees to minor sites, snacks, and local transportation. ATMs are widely available in major cities and tourist areas, making it easy to withdraw local currency when needed. Read our article for more about how to pay in Egypt.
