Egypt Short Breaks

Private 2 to 5 Day Tour Packages, Guided by Licensed Egyptologists

Private 2 to 5 Day Tour Packages, Guided by Licensed Egyptologists

The standard answer is seven days. That answer is really about the Nile cruise, and if you are not taking one, it does not apply to you.

Egypt looks intimidating on a map and is easier than it looks in practice. Cairo to Luxor is a one-hour domestic flight; Cairo to Aswan is not much longer. Moving between bases costs you a morning, not a day. That is why our Egypt short breaks reach further than most people expect from two to five days, and why we have been selling a three-day Cairo and Luxor itinerary for years.

The useful way to plan a short trip is by bases rather than by days.

Two days — one base done properly, or two at a push. Cairo and the Giza Plateau, or Luxor’s east and west banks. Our two-day Cairo and Luxor break does cover both, and it works, but one of your two mornings goes to the airport.

Three days — two bases, comfortably. Cairo with Luxor gives you the Giza Plateau, the Grand Egyptian Museum, the Valley of the Kings and Karnak, properly guided, without running. Cairo with Alexandria stays on the road. Cairo with the White Desert swaps the second city for a night under the stars.

Four days — two bases unhurried, or three at a brisk pace. Enough that the second destination gets a full day rather than an afternoon. Eight of our sixteen short breaks are four days, which is not an accident.

Five days — three bases, realistically. Cairo, Luxor and Aswan all become possible, and Abu Simbel comes within reach.

The one thing that does not scale down is the cruise. A three-night Nile cruise consumes three nights by definition and a four-night consumes four, before you have spent a single night in Cairo. If a cruise is what you have come for, you need seven days and we will tell you so rather than sell you something that will disappoint. If it is not, a short break covers more than the guidebooks suggest.

Every tour on this page is private, because every tour under seven days is private by default with us. Your own licensed Egyptologist, your own air-conditioned vehicle, and start times you set. On a short trip that is not a comfort — it is the difference between reaching Giza at eight and reaching it at ten, which on a two-day break is a real fraction of the whole holiday.

Egypt Best Vacations is a licensed Egyptian tour operator based in Luxor, founded by a professional Egyptologist, and a TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice winner three years running — 2024, 2025 and 2026.

An unforgettable and beautifully orchestrated Egypt experience An unforgettable and beautifully orchestrated Egypt experience We just returned from an incredible trip to Egypt with Egypt Best Vacations, and it was truly one of the most memorable journeys our family has taken. Egypt can feel overwhelming at first — the airports, early morning flights, cruise schedules, temple visits, Cairo traffic, tickets, transfers, and the sheer magnitude of history everywhere you go. But Egypt Best Vacations handled the logistics with impressive precision and made the entire experience feel effortless. That allowed us to be fully present and enjoy the trip instead of constantly worrying about the next step. Our journey began in Cairo and then continued to Luxor, where we boarded our Nile cruise to Aswan. Luxor was absolutely extraordinary. Karnak Temple, Luxor Temple, the Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut Temple, and the Colossi of Memnon were all breathtaking. What made the visits even more meaningful was having a knowledgeable guide who could explain the history, symbolism, and significance behind what we were seeing. In Egypt, the right guide makes a huge difference — otherwise you are just looking at ancient stones without understanding the civilization behind them. The Nile cruise was another highlight. Sailing between Edfu, Kom Ombo, and Aswan gave the trip a beautiful rhythm. Philae Temple was stunning, and Abu Simbel was worth every minute of the early morning journey. Standing in front of those monumental temples is humbling and almost surreal. Back in Cairo, we visited the Pyramids of Giza, the Sphinx, the Grand Egyptian Museum, Coptic Cairo, the Citadel, and Khan El-Khalili. Each place had its own character, from the grandeur of the pyramids to the spiritual depth of Coptic Cairo and the energy of the bazaar. The itinerary was ambitious, but it never felt chaotic because the team managed the details so well. What we appreciated most was the professionalism, responsiveness, and genuine care from Egypt Best Vacations. They were punctual, organized, flexible when needed, and clearly experienced in creating a smooth experience for travelers. For a first trip to Egypt, that kind of coordination is invaluable. I would highly recommend Egypt Best Vacations to anyone planning to visit Egypt. They helped turn a complex itinerary into a seamless, enriching, and unforgettable adventure.

Amazing, informative and easy! We had the BEST experience with this tour company. We are a family of 5 with 3 younger children and needed a way to see Cairo on our own schedule. We were referred this company from a friend and so glad we booked. We were met at the airport before passport control by one of the guides who escorted us through the visa process, passport control, luggage and straight into an awaiting van. Our driver took us to the hotel for our afternoon checkin. The next morning our tour guide MINA met us. He was cheerful, friendly and so intelligent. As we drove out to the pyramids of Giza he point out local places and gave us much information about them. He also made learning about where we were going interesting for our children. He worked with our pace and interests. He taught us so much about the pyramids. We were bought to a great lunch spot with great food whic and as included in our booking. The GEM museum was huge (20 football fields huge!) Mina was as so respectful of our children and made sure we saw the most important parts of the exhibitions to make the trip quick and effective. Our first day was perfect. On our 2nd day Mina took us to Saqqara, Memphis and Dahshur. Again he made this trip so quick, pointing out the important things and making sure our children were enjoying themselves and learning as well. We are so grateful to the team who made this trip so easy and enjoyable!

Great Experience on the Nile The boat was excellent and very comfortable, with a top-notch crew who always provided professional and attentive service. Very clean and the cabin was spacious enough for 2 people. You could also find beer and/or wine on board. The food was ok, and one evening the crew even provided entertainment with music and dance after we had moored shortly before arriving in Aswan. Amazing bbq that night!! Ahmed our guide was incredibly generous with his time, always happy to answer questions, and constantly went above and beyond to make our experience richer and more meaningful. Beyond being an outstanding guide, Ahmed was also a wonderful person: intelligent, funny, thoughtful, and a true pleasure to spend time with. Thanks to him, we discovered not only the magnificence of Egypt’s ancient past, but also the kindness, humor, and hospitality of its people. He took us also to a Patisserie to taste Egyptian sweets. This made the entire trip feel far deeper and more authentic than a standard tour experience. We left Egypt absolutely enchanted, and much of that was thanks to Egypt Best Vacations, Essam and his team, our guide Ahmed, and the entire Dahabiya crew. Highly recommended.

Outstanding service and highly recommend We spent eight nights away and was highly impressed with the service. For the airport pick up, the tour guides, the hotels, the transport, the cruise and every aspect of our holiday, it simply was the best. It removed any chaos and was an easy holiday being guided the whole way through. I highly recommend this company and their services to any people looking for a great holiday away with educational tour guides and an amazing experience with lots of great memories. Won’t get better than this!

Our 9-Day Egyptian Adventure Our 9-day tour to Cairo, Alexandria, and the Nile cruise with Egypt Best Vacations was a fantastic and memorable experience. From the moment we landed in Cairo, the logistics were seamless; a representative helped us through customs, and we had reliable transportation for every pick-up and drop-off throughout the trip. Both our hotel stays and the cruise ship were very comfortable. Our guides were the true highlight of the journey. In Cairo, Omar shared his deep knowledge and even taught us how to read cartouches, adjusting his explanations based on the group’s interest. In Aswan and Luxor, Khalifa led us with incredible passion, providing the perfect context for the site and artifacts. Both were friendly, professional, and excellent communicators. The itinerary was reasonably paced, giving our group just enough time to explore these massive sites on our own while ensuring we didn't miss the most important details. If you want a professionally organized tour with expert guides who make the most of your time, I highly recommend this company.

Well organized and hassle free group tour Essam was super responsive from the moment we booked all the way through the end of the trip. Everything was really well organized and ran exactly according to the itinerary, which made the whole experience stress-free. We had a few specific requests for our hotel and cruise, and he was able to make it happen without any issues. We were a bit worried at first because of the Middle East conflict, but Essam was very reassuring, kept communication open throughout, and provided updates when needed. He also handled things professionally for anyone in the group who preferred to cancel, which we appreciated. We were also welcomed at the airport by Tory, who handled everything seamlessly—from visa processing to hotel and flight check-ins—so arrival and departures were completely hassle-free. The guides were also great—Omar in Cairo/Alexandria and Khalifa in Aswan/Luxor were both very knowledgeable, shared a lot of historical context, and answered questions in detail, which made the tours much more interesting and engaging. Even the airport pickups and drop-offs were smooth and well-coordinated. Overall, it felt like a very well-organized group tour where you didn’t have to worry about the details at all.

Excellent! Amazing journey and super skilled and kind guide. Ahmed advised us about the excursions and the best treasures to focus on, and also made multimedial contents for us so that the explanations would be clearer! He took care that everything would be fine and without setbacks, I literally had nothing to think/worry about.

more than a guided tour We highly recommend this agency for the incredible trip they organized for us in Egypt. From the very beginning, their customer service was punctual, attentive, and extremely well organized, and they created a tailor-made itinerary that perfectly matched our expectations. The experience included a sustainable Nile cruise, private transfers, visits to all the must-see sites along the Nile, an English-speaking guide, and all meals on board. Everything was arranged at a very high level, and the transfers were always exclusive and seamless. A special mention goes to our guide, Khalaf. He was much more than a tour guide: he was a true travel companion throughout the journey. We shared meals and had conversations that went far beyond a simple sightseeing trip, which made the experience truly memorable and personal. The boat itself was also a wonderful surprise — a level of luxury we honestly did not expect. For all these reasons, we strongly recommend this agency and their guide to anyone looking for an outstanding experience in Egypt

Related FAQs About Egypt Short Breaks

Most Asked Questions about Egypt Short Vacation Packages

What is an Egypt short break?

An Egypt short break is a compact trip of roughly 2 to 5 days that captures the country’s highlights without a long itinerary. Egypt Best Vacations designs short breaks around Cairo and the Pyramids, often paired with Luxor, Alexandria, or the Red Sea, with private guiding and transfers so you see a lot in a little time.

Can I add a Nile cruise a short break?

Not on a two to five day trip, and we would rather say so than sell you a compromise. The shortest Nile cruise is three nights, sailing Aswan to Luxor downstream; the Luxor to Aswan direction is four nights upstream. Three or four nights on the water leaves nothing for Cairo inside a five-day trip. For a cruise plus Cairo you want six days at a minimum, and eight is more comfortable. If the Nile is the reason you are coming, look at our seven and ten day itineraries instead. If the pyramids and the temples are the reason, a short break does the job and you can take the cruise on your next visit.

Is 2 or 3 days enough to visit Egypt?

Yes, for two cities — but not for a Nile cruise. Cairo to Luxor is a one-hour domestic flight, so a three-day break covers the Giza Plateau, the Grand Egyptian Museum, the Valley of the Kings and Karnak without rushing, which is exactly what our three-day Cairo and Luxor tour does. What will not fit is a cruise: three nights on the boat leaves nothing for Cairo, which is the real reason people are told Egypt needs a week. Plan by bases rather than days — two bases in three days, three in five — and a short break goes further than you would expect.

What can I see on a short break to Cairo?

A Cairo short break covers the Great Pyramids of Giza, the Sphinx, and the Grand Egyptian Museum, with time for Islamic and Coptic Cairo and the Khan El-Khalili bazaar. It is the perfect quick introduction to ancient Egypt, and Egypt Best Vacations can tailor the pace for a weekend or a longer city stay.

Which cities can I combine on a short break?

Cairo pairs with almost anywhere. Cairo and Luxor is the most booked combination and works from two days upward on a one-hour flight. Cairo and Alexandria stays on the road, roughly three hours each way. Cairo and Aswan brings Philae and the High Dam within reach, with Abu Simbel on the four-day version. Cairo and Hurghada adds the Red Sea. Cairo and the White Desert, or Cairo and Siwa, trade a second city for desert landscape. Aswan also stands alone as a three, four or five day trip, which is the quietest and cheapest option we sell. Three bases is realistic at five days; beyond that you are packing rather than seeing.

Do children pay full price on an Egypt short break?

No. On tours without domestic flights, children under 6 travel free, ages 6 to 11 pay 50% of the adult rate, and ages 12 and over pay the adult rate. On packages that include a domestic flight — the Cairo and Luxor or Cairo and Aswan combinations, for example — ages 0 to 2 pay 30%, ages 3 to 5 pay 40%, ages 6 to 11 pay 50%, and 12 and over pay the adult rate. Send us the ages and we will quote exactly.

What happens if I need to cancel a short break?

Cancellation charges begin at 15% and rise to 90% between 14 and 8 days before arrival. The full ladder, and the terms for moving your dates rather than cancelling, are set out on our booking conditions page. We recommend travel insurance that covers cancellation.

Are Egypt short breaks private and guided?

Yes, all of them. Every tour on this page runs under seven days, and every Egypt Best Vacations tour under seven days is private by default. You travel with your own licensed Egyptologist, your own air-conditioned vehicle and your own start times. Private touring matters most on a short trip: it is the difference between reaching the Giza Plateau at eight and reaching it at ten, and on a two-day break that is a meaningful share of the whole holiday.

How much does an Egypt short break cost?

Egypt short breaks start from $395 per person for a three-day Aswan trip and $400 for a two-day Cairo and Alexandria break. Most three to five day combinations sit between $450 and $1,015, depending on the cities and the hotel tier. Luxury short breaks run to $1,240 for the four-day Cairo and El-Fayoum itinerary. Prices vary by hotel tier, season and room sharing.

When is the best time for a short break to Egypt?

October to April is the best time for an Egypt short break, with warm, comfortable days ideal for sightseeing in Cairo, Luxor, and Alexandria. Short breaks work year-round, though, since much of the touring can be timed for mornings, and Red Sea add-ons are pleasant even in the warmer months.

Do I need a visa for a short trip to Egypt?

Most visitors need a tourist visa for Egypt, currently 30 US dollars for a single entry valid up to 30 days, available online as an e-visa or on arrival at the airport. This applies even for short breaks. Egypt Best Vacations can advise on the latest requirements for your nationality when you book.

Are Egypt short breaks suitable for families and couples?

Yes. Short breaks suit couples wanting a quick cultural getaway and families looking for an easy first taste of Egypt. The compact length keeps younger travelers engaged, and Egypt Best Vacations adjusts the pace, hotels, and activities to fit honeymooners, families with children, or first-time visitors with limited time.
