Four days is enough for two things done properly rather than five done at a jog. Cairo gets the Giza plateau, the Grand Egyptian Museum, the Citadel and Coptic Cairo. Luxor gets the Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut’s temple, Karnak and Luxor Temple, reached by a domestic flight in the morning and returning the same evening — so you unpack once, in Cairo, and stay unpacked.

Our representative meets you inside the arrivals hall at Cairo International Airport, walks you through the visa and passport formalities, and transfers you to your hotel. The rest of the day is yours to rest or explore.
Meals Plan: No Meals Included
Your guide collects you from the hotel for the Giza plateau: the pyramids of Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure, and the Great Sphinx. You will hear how they were built and, more interestingly, why. Going inside the Great Pyramid is a separate ticket bought on the day, and your guide will tell you honestly whether it is worth it for you.
Lunch at a local restaurant, then the Grand Egyptian Museum beside the plateau: the Grand Staircase, the main galleries, and the Tutankhamun galleries where the complete tomb assemblage is shown together for the first time. Return to your hotel.

An early transfer to Cairo Airport and the flight south. Your Luxor guide meets you at the airport, outside the terminal. The day runs across both banks: the Valley of the Kings, where the New Kingdom pharaohs were cut into the rock; the terraced mortuary temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari; and the Colossi of Memnon for a photograph.
Hatshepsut began as regent for Thutmose III and went on to rule as a crowned king in full pharaonic regalia — with his regnal years still running alongside hers. Standing in front of her temple is the clearest way to understand what that meant.
Lunch, then Karnak — the largest religious complex ever built, around 100 hectares — and Luxor Temple on the east bank. Both were dedicated to Amun, Mut and Khonsu, the Theban triad. Evening flight back to Cairo and transfer to your hotel.
This is a full day and it is meant to be. You do not overnight in Luxor: the itinerary is built so you keep one Cairo room for all three nights instead of packing and repacking.

After breakfast, the Citadel of Saladin, begun in 1176 to defend Cairo against the Crusaders, and the Alabaster Mosque of Muhammad Ali within its walls. Then Coptic Cairo: the Hanging Church, suspended over the water gate of the Roman fortress; Abu Serga, built above the cave where tradition places the Holy Family’s shelter; and the Ben Ezra Synagogue, where the Cairo Geniza manuscripts were found.
The tour ends at Khan el-Khalili with free time to wander and buy. Transfer to Cairo International Airport for your departure — or talk to us about extending south to Aswan or onto a Nile cruise.
