Choose Your Pairing
Cairo and the Nile. Fly south for Luxor and Aswan and sail between them. This is the classic choice and what most first-time visitors picture. Take a three-night cruise ship, a felucca if you want something simpler and closer to the water, or a dahabiya if you want a small sailing boat with only a handful of cabins.
Cairo and the Red Sea. The Pyramids first, then Hurghada or Sharm El-Sheikh for reef diving and a slower few days. The right call when part of your group cares more about the sea than the temples.
Cairo and the coast or the desert. Alexandria for Graeco-Roman Egypt, the White Desert for its chalk formations, or Siwa Oasis for somewhere almost nobody on your flight home will have been.
What Six Days Will Not Fit
Cairo, Luxor, Aswan, Abu Simbel and the Red Sea in one week is a schedule, not a holiday. Abu Simbel in particular adds a pre-dawn start to an already full Aswan day — it is worth doing, but on a six-day trip it takes the place of something else rather than being added on top. If you want all of it at a pace you will enjoy, our eight and nine day itineraries are the honest answer, and we would rather say so now than have you realise it on day four.

When to Travel
October to April is comfortable across the whole country, with December and January the coolest and the busiest. Summer works well if you are pairing Cairo with the Red Sea, since the hot hours are the ones you spend in the water. It is harder in Upper Egypt: Luxor and Aswan routinely pass 40°C from June to August, and sightseeing means starting at dawn and stopping by midday.

Not Quite Six Days?
Five days works if you are staying in and around Cairo. Seven days is the point where Cairo, a Nile cruise and Abu Simbel start to fit without rushing. Eight and nine days let you add the Red Sea or Alexandria on top of the Nile rather than instead of it.

Do your 6 day vacations include a Nile cruise?
Several do. You can choose a three-night cruise ship between Luxor and Aswan, a felucca for something simpler and closer to the water, or a dahabiya — a small sailing boat with only a handful of cabins and a slower, quieter rhythm.
Which temples are included on the Nile cruise itineraries?
Karnak and Luxor temples and the Valley of the Kings on the Luxor side, Philae Temple at Aswan, and Kom Ombo and the Temple of Horus at Edfu as the boat sails between the two cities.
Can I add Abu Simbel to a 6 day trip?
Yes, as an optional excursion from Aswan, either by road before dawn or by short flight. Go in with your eyes open: it is a long round trip, and on a six-day itinerary it will replace something else rather than sit alongside it.
Can I include Alexandria?
Yes. Two itineraries here pair Cairo with Alexandria, taking in the Citadel of Qaitbay and the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa. Alexandria is reached by road from Cairo, roughly three hours each way.
Are these tours suitable for first-time visitors?
Six days built around one clear pairing is among the better ways to see Egypt for the first time. You get the Pyramids and the Grand Egyptian Museum without a schedule that has you waking up in a different city every morning.
What is included in a typical 6 day package?
Accommodation, all transfers and internal transport, guided sightseeing with a licensed Egyptologist, entrance fees to the sites in the itinerary, and the meals listed on each tour page. Domestic flights are included where the itinerary needs them. International flights, your Egypt visa, gratuities and travel insurance are not.
When is the best time for a 6 day Egypt vacation?
October to April across the country. If you are pairing Cairo with the Red Sea, summer works well, because the hottest hours are the ones you spend in the water. Luxor and Aswan are harder in June to August, when temperatures routinely pass 40°C.
Do I need a visa?
Most nationalities do. You can apply for an e-visa online before you fly, or buy a visa on arrival at the airport, currently 30 US dollars. Some nationalities are exempt and some must apply in advance, so check yours before booking flights.
