Tour Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival in Cairo, Egypt

Welcome to the land of pharaohs and pyramids! As your plane touches down at Cairo International Airport, a friendly representative from “Egypt Best Vacations” will be waiting to greet you with a warm smile. You’ll breeze through the arrival and visa formalities with their expert help, then hop aboard your comfortable transfer, leaving the bustle of the airport behind. Arrive at your hotel feeling refreshed and ready to begin your 8 day Egypt tour with Nile cruise.

Meals Plan: No Meals Included

Day 2Visit Giza Pyramids, Sphinx and GEM Museum

Your adventure truly begins when our expert tour guide picks you up from your hotel for a day among Egypt’s greatest icons: the Great Pyramids of Giza, the Sphinx, and the Grand Egyptian Museum.

At the Giza Plateau, explore the Great Pyramids of Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure alongside the enigmatic Sphinx. Khufu’s Great Pyramid — the only ancient wonder of the world still standing — awaits you. Are you ready to discover it from the inside? (Optional ticket.) Your Egyptologist guide will explain how the pyramids were built, why they were built, and the mysteries that still surround them.

Savor your lunch at a local restaurant, then proceed to the Grand Egyptian Museum. Explore the world’s largest collection of ancient Egyptian treasures in one stunning modern complex. You’ll stand face-to-face with the full Tutankhamun collection and enjoy immersive galleries that bring Egypt’s history to life. Then, head back to your hotel.

Meals Plan: Breakfast & Lunch

Day 3Fly to Aswan: Aswan Tour & Nile Cruise Embarkation

A majestic Nile cruise vacation awaits! Today your Egypt 8 day itinerary shifts south. Transfer to Cairo Airport and fly to Aswan to begin your 3-night Nile cruise from Aswan to Luxor.

Meet your guide just outside the arrival terminal to begin your Aswan tour. Your first stop is the High Dam, a massive engineering marvel built in the 1960s to protect Egypt from floods and generate hydroelectric power. Then take a motorboat to the beautiful Temple of Isis on Philae Island. Built primarily during the Ptolemaic period, it is one of the most incredible temples in Egypt — famously relocated stone by stone by UNESCO after the dams were built. End your tour at the granite quarry of the Unfinished Obelisk, where you’ll learn how the ancient Egyptians carved their obelisks and statues of gods and kings. Then, transfer to your Nile cruise ship. Overnight in Aswan.

Optional tour: Nubian Village in Aswan

Meals Plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 4Aswan - Kom Ombo - Edfu

Enjoy a free morning on board your ship, or join our optional excursion to Abu Simbel‘s phenomenal temples, carved into the mountainside by Ramses II.

Around lunchtime, your cruise sets sail for Kom Ombo. Disembark to visit the unique Twin Temple of Sobek, the crocodile god, and Horus, the falcon god. Built during the Greco-Roman period over the ruins of a New Kingdom temple, it was begun under Ptolemy V and completed under Emperor Tiberius, with emperors such as Domitian and Caracalla adding to it — about 400 years of construction in total. Enjoy a short visit to the fascinating Crocodile Museum before returning to your ship and sailing on to Edfu. Overnight in Edfu.

Meals Plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 5Edfu - Esna - Luxor East Bank Tour

Before breakfast, take a horse-drawn carriage to the Temple of Horus in Edfu — the most intact temple in Egypt, fully inscribed with reliefs and hieroglyphs on its walls inside and out. Visiting Edfu Temple adds great value to your 8 day Cairo and Nile cruise tour.

Return to your ship and sail from Edfu to Luxor via the Lock of Esna. Upon arrival in Luxor, explore mighty Karnak Temple, the largest temple complex in the world. Its vast halls, towering columns, and sacred sanctuaries reveal the greatness of Thebes during the New Kingdom. Then continue to the majestic Temple of Luxor, one of the most beautiful ancient temples in Egypt. Built mainly by Amenhotep III and Ramses II, it was dedicated to the rejuvenation of kingship and the glory of ancient Thebes. Both temples honored the Theban Triad: Amun, Mut, and Khonsu.

Meals Plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 6Visit Kings Valley, Hatshepsut Temple and Colossi of Memnon

Disembark from your Nile cruise ship after breakfast to explore Luxor’s west bank. Begin with the magnificent tombs of the Valley of the Kings, where the pharaohs of the New Kingdom were buried in tombs cut deep into the mountain to hide them from grave robbers. Your guide will recommend the best three tombs among those open to visitors.

Then continue to the unique Temple of Hatshepsut, the female pharaoh who ruled as sole pharaoh for about 20 years. Her temple is famous for its grand terraces and elegant design set dramatically against the cliffs of Deir El-Bahari. End your west bank tour at the Colossi of Memnon: these two giant statues of Amenhotep III once stood in front of the main gate of his vast mortuary temple, and remain among the most famous landmarks of ancient Thebes.

As the Luxor chapter of your journey draws to a close, bid farewell to the Valley of the Kings and the Nile’s golden embrace. Transfer to Luxor Airport for a quick flight back to Cairo, then on to your hotel.

Optional tour: Sunrise Hot Air Ballooning over Luxor

Meals Plan: Breakfast Only

Day 7Coptic Cairo, Saladin Citadel and Khan El-Khalili Tour

After breakfast at the hotel, visit the Citadel of Saladin, built in 1172 by the great Sunni Muslim leader to protect Cairo from the Crusaders. Admire the White Mosque of Mohammed Ali Pasha, the citadel’s most prominent feature. Continue to the Coptic Cairo district to visit the Hanging Church, one of the most famous Christian landmarks in Old Cairo, known for its beautiful wooden ceiling, historic icons, and unique location above the Babylon Fortress.

Proceed to Abu Serga Church, one of the oldest churches in Old Cairo and a major stop on the Holy Family route in Egypt — tradition says the Holy Family stayed in a cave beneath the church during their journey. End your Coptic Cairo tour at the Ben Ezra Synagogue, one of the most important Jewish landmarks in Old Cairo, famous for the Geniza documents that revealed valuable details about daily life in the medieval Middle East.

Finish your day at the historical Khan El-Khalili bazaar, one of the oldest and most famous bazaars in the Middle East — a vibrant maze of narrow lanes, colorful shops, handmade souvenirs, spices, jewelry, and lively cafés. Then return to your hotel for the final night of your 8 day Cairo and Nile cruise tour.

Meals Plan: Breakfast Only

Day 8End of your 8 Day Egypt Tour with Nile Cruise

As the sun rises over Cairo one last time, your 8 days in Egypt draw to a close — whispers of ancient wonders mixing with the promise of future journeys. After breakfast, transfer to Cairo Airport for your final departure.

Meals Plan: Breakfast Only

FAQs

What destinations are included in this tour?

You’ll visit Cairo, Aswan, Kom Ombo, Edfu, and Luxor — Egypt’s capital plus the classic Nile cruise route through Upper Egypt, connected by domestic flights.

What are the main highlights?

The tour includes the Great Pyramids of Giza, the Sphinx, the Grand Egyptian Museum, Philae Temple, the Temple of Kom Ombo, the Temple of Edfu, Karnak Temple, Luxor Temple, the Valley of the Kings, the Temple of Hatshepsut, the Colossi of Memnon, the Citadel of Saladin, Coptic Cairo, and Khan El-Khalili bazaar.

How many nights are spent on the Nile cruise?

The package includes a 3-night Nile cruise from Aswan to Luxor on a 5-star ship, with sightseeing stops at Kom Ombo and Edfu along the way.

Is the Nile cruise full board?

Yes. Your cruise includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner on board for all three nights. In total, the package includes 14 meals: 7 breakfasts, 4 lunches, and 3 dinners.

Why is this tour "by air"? What does that mean?

All long-distance travel within Egypt is by domestic flight: you fly from Cairo to Aswan to join your cruise, and from Luxor back to Cairo after it. That means no overnight trains and no long road journeys — more time at the pyramids and temples, less time in transit.

Can I visit Abu Simbel on this tour?

Yes, as an optional excursion. On the morning of Day 4, before your cruise sails from Aswan, you can join an optional trip to the phenomenal Abu Simbel Temples of Ramses II and Queen Nefertari. Contact Egypt Best Vacations when booking to add it to your itinerary.

Can I go inside the Great Pyramid?

Yes. Entering Khufu’s Great Pyramid is possible with a special ticket, purchased on site at an additional fee — your guide will help you arrange it on Day 2. The interior passage is narrow and low in places, so it’s best suited to travelers comfortable with confined spaces.

Is this a private or group tour?

This is a small group tour with a maximum of 16 travelers, giving you a sociable atmosphere while keeping the experience personal. It can also be arranged as a fully private tour on request — contact Egypt Best Vacations for private rates.

Can this tour start on any day of the week?

Yes. While the 3-night Nile cruise departs Aswan on fixed days each week, this itinerary includes four nights in Cairo, which gives us room to arrange your Cairo sightseeing around any arrival date. We simply adjust the order of your Cairo days so you reach Aswan in time for the cruise — whichever day you land.

What is the difference between this tour and the 7 Day Egypt Tour with Nile Cruise?

Both include the same 3-night Nile cruise from Aswan to Luxor and the Giza Pyramids and Grand Egyptian Museum day. This 8-day version adds a full extra day in Cairo dedicated to the Citadel of Saladin, the churches of Coptic Cairo, and Khan El-Khalili bazaar — at a relaxed pace, with a free evening before departure. If your time is tighter, the 7 Day Egypt Tour Package with Nile Cruise fits the essentials into one less day.

Can I book this tour for 2027 or 2028?

Yes. Egypt Best Vacations is now taking bookings for 2027 and 2028 departures, including Christmas, New Year, and Easter dates. Booking early secures the best Nile cruise cabins, preferred hotels, and convenient flight times.

Are guided tours included?

Yes. Professional licensed Egyptologist guides accompany you during all sightseeing in Cairo, Aswan, Kom Ombo, Edfu, and Luxor.

What type of accommodation is included?

The package includes 4 nights in Cairo on a bed-and-breakfast basis and 3 nights on a full-board Nile cruise. Accommodation comes in two tiers: Gold (5-star standard hotels and cruise ships) and Platinum (5-star deluxe hotels and cruise ships).

Are entrance fees included?

Yes. Entrance fees to all attractions listed in the itinerary are included. Special tickets — such as entering the Great Pyramid, the tombs of Seti I and Ramses V, or Tutankhamun’s tomb — are available at an additional fee.

Is Wi-Fi available on the Nile cruise?

Most Nile cruise ships offer Wi-Fi in public areas, though the connection can be limited while sailing. Consider it a good excuse to enjoy the river views instead.

How much walking is involved?

The tour involves moderate walking at temples, tombs, and museums, including some uneven ground and steps. Most travelers with an average fitness level enjoy it comfortably, and the cruise days naturally build in rest time.

Is this tour suitable for families and seniors?

Yes. The pacing is balanced, transport is air-conditioned and comfortable, domestic flights keep journeys short, and the cruise offers built-in relaxation — making it well suited to families with children, couples, solo travelers, and seniors.

What is the best travel season?

The most comfortable months are October to April, when the weather is mild and ideal for sightseeing. Summer (May to August) is very hot in Luxor and Aswan, though the cruise’s air-conditioned comfort and pool make it manageable for travelers who prefer fewer crowds.

When should I book?

The earlier the better, especially for the high season from October to April — Nile cruise cabins and domestic flights fill quickly. For travel around Christmas, New Year, or Easter, booking several months ahead is strongly recommended.

Do I need a visa to visit Egypt?

Most travelers can obtain a visa on arrival at Cairo Airport or apply for an e-visa online before departure. Make sure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your arrival date.

Do I need travel insurance?

Yes, we strongly recommend it. With international flights, two domestic flights, and a cruise, travel insurance protects you against unforeseen cancellations, delays, medical issues, or lost luggage. Egypt Best Vacations doesn’t sell insurance, so please arrange it before departure.

Is it safe to travel to Egypt?

Yes, it is generally safe. Tourist sites and the Nile cruise route between Aswan and Luxor are well secured and routinely patrolled by tourist police. The main things to watch for are common travel scams, such as overcharging for taxi or camel rides at the pyramids.
