Tour To Giza Pyramids, Sphinx, Saqqara And Memphis

Explore the wonders of Giza with our exclusive Cairo day tours. Meet your guide at your hotel reception to commence your tour to Giza Pyramids, Sphinx, Saqqara and Memphis.

Giza Plateau:

Your first stop of your tour to Giza Pyramids, Sphinx, Saqqara and Memphis is at the Giza Plateau. Giza Plateau is the site of the necropolis of the 4th dynasty. It is located just outside of the outskirts of Cairo on the esplanade known as the Giza Plateau. The Great Pyramids of Giza are the must-see Ancient Egyptian landmark. Known as Khufu’s Pyramid, it is the greatest pyramid of the complex: a truly overwhelming sight.

Being one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, it is the only one still standing to this day! When gazing at this colossal structure, there’s no way to escape the feeling of being dwarfed. The two smaller – but still huge – pyramids at Giza are those of Khafre and Menkaure.

A causeway slopes down to the giant Sphinx. The Sphinx is a mythical creature with the head of a human, a Falcon, a Cat, or a Sheep, and the body of a lion with the wings of an Eagle. In Greek tradition, the Sphinx has the head of a woman, the haunches of a Lion, and the wings of a bird.

Saqqara:

Next stop of your tour to Giza Pyramids, Sphinx, Saqqara and Memphis is at Saqqara. Saqqara, the sweeping necropolis and pyramid field of Memphis, the first Capital of Egypt. It has been an important historical site for 5,000 years of Egyptian history. This large area about 20 miles south of Cairo features the small square tombs (Mastabas) of the kings of the First and Second Dynasties.

Most famously, the first king of the Third Dynasty, Djoser, asked his Vizier and Chief Architect, Imhotep to erect for him the first monument built entirely of stone in ancient Egypt. The result is the famous Step Pyramid of Saqqara and its surrounding funerary complex. Which was enclosed by a huge wall, probably emulating that which surrounded Memphis itself.

Memphis:

You will conclude your tour to Giza Pyramids, Sphinx, Saqqara and Memphis  in Memphis. Memphis was one of the oldest and most important cities in ancient Egypt. Located at the entrance to the Nile River Valley near the Giza Plateau. It served as the capital of ancient Egypt and an important religious cult center. The original name of the city was Hiku-Ptah (also Hut-Ka-Ptah) but it was later known as Inbu-Hedj which means ‘White Walls’ because it was built of mud brick and then painted white. Your tour includes the Open Air Museum with its gigantic statue of Ramses II.
