9:30 AM – 12:00 PM — The Egyptian Museum: Start in Tahrir Square at the oldest archaeological museum in the Middle East. With your Egyptologist leading the way, two and a half hours become a journey through 5,000 years: the Narmer Palette, carved to record the moment Egypt became one kingdom; the complete golden burial treasures of Yuya and Thuya; the statues of Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure, builders of the Giza Pyramids; and hall after hall of sarcophagi, papyri, and royal jewelry reaching from the Predynastic Period to the Greco-Roman age.
12:15 PM – 2:15 PM — Coptic Cairo: A short drive brings you to the old walled quarter built within Roman Babylon, where the streets narrow and the centuries slow down. Your guide leads you into the Hanging Church, one of Cairo’s oldest Coptic churches, suspended above a Roman gatehouse with its cedar ceiling built like an ark. A few lanes away stands the Church of St. Sergius and Bacchus — Abu Serga — where tradition holds that Joseph, Mary, and the infant Jesus sheltered in the crypt below during their flight into Egypt. When it is open to visitors, the tour also includes the Ben Ezra Synagogue, one of Egypt’s oldest, where the famous Cairo Geniza documents were discovered.
