Christmas Nile Cruise 2026: 4 Nights from Luxor to Aswan

This 4 night Christmas Nile cruise sails from Luxor to Aswan over five days, departing through the Christmas holidays. Prices start at $930 per person triple-share and include full board, guided touring at every site, and entrance fees to all the temples on the itinerary.

The extra night is what separates this from the shorter sailing. You open in Luxor with Karnak and Luxor Temple, then give the west bank a full unhurried morning — the Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut’s terraced temple at Deir el-Bahari, the Colossi of Memnon — instead of compressing it into a disembarkation day. And you finish with a complete day in Aswan: the High Dam, the Unfinished Obelisk still lying in its quarry, Philae rebuilt block by block on Agilkia island, and a free afternoon to spend as you like.

December is the right month for it. Days in Upper Egypt sit around 22–25°C, warm enough for the long walk through Karnak and comfortable in the Valley of the Kings at midday. Evenings on deck drop to roughly 10–12°C, so bring a layer. And because Egypt keeps Coptic Christmas on January 7th as well as December 25th, the festive season along the Nile runs well into the new year.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1Arrive Luxor: Karnak and Luxor Temple

Meet your Egyptologist guide at Luxor International Airport and cross straight to the east bank. Karnak first — not one temple but a complex that thirty dynasties kept adding to across roughly two thousand years, each pharaoh building on what the last had left. The hypostyle hall alone holds 134 columns.

Then Luxor Temple, a 3 kilometre and a half south, once joined to Karnak by an avenue of sphinxes that has now been excavated along its full length. Both were dedicated to the Theban triad: Amun, Mut and Khonsu.

Board your ship in the late afternoon and stay overnight in Luxor.

Day 2Luxor West Bank, then sail to Edfu

Cross to the west bank after breakfast, with the whole morning for it. The Valley of the Kings holds 65 known tombs, cut deep into the rock once the New Kingdom pharaohs abandoned pyramids and started hiding their burials instead. Your ticket covers three; your guide picks the best open on the day, since both decoration and crowding vary.

On to Hatshepsut’s mortuary temple at Deir el-Bahari, built in terraces straight into the cliff face — she ruled as sole pharaoh for around twenty years. A final stop at the Colossi of Memnon, two seated statues of Amenhotep III and all that remains of what was once the largest temple complex in Egypt.

Back aboard to sail south through the Esna Lock, where the ship is raised to the next stretch of river. Overnight in Edfu.

Day 3Visit Edfu & Kom Ombo Temples

Horse and carriage to Edfu before the day heats up. The Temple of Horus is the most complete temple standing in Egypt, and the reason is unglamorous: it spent centuries buried under sand and silt, which protected the roof and the reliefs until excavation in the 1860s. The inscriptions here are the fullest surviving record of how an Egyptian temple actually worked.

Sail on to Kom Ombo, a double temple split precisely down its centre line — one half for Horus the falcon, the other for Sobek the crocodile. Two sanctuaries, two sets of everything, mirrored. The Crocodile Museum alongside holds the mummified animals recovered from the site.

Continue to Aswan. Overnight on board.

Day 4Aswan: High Dam, Unfinished Obelisk, Philae

The High Dam first — two kilometers of rockfill that ended the Nile’s annual flood in 1970 and created Lake Nasser behind it. Then the Unfinished Obelisk, still lying in the granite quarry where it cracked; had it been raised it would have stood 42 metres and weighed over 1,000 tonnes, the largest ever attempted.

Philae last, reached by boat. The temple of Isis is not where it was built — when the water rose, the whole complex was cut into some forty thousand blocks and reassembled on higher ground at Agilkia island.

Your afternoon is free: stay aboard, or explore Aswan on your own. Final night on the ship.

Pricing Policy

All our prices are in USD per person per trip. You can also make your payment online through a secure payment gateway with no additional fees or surcharges. We accept USD, Euros, GBP, CAD, AUD and NZD. The starting price is for one adult in a triple room on a group tour. There’s a single supplement for single accommodation.

Tipping

Tipping is not included in our tour packages and is left entirely to your discretion. While it is not mandatory, it is greatly appreciated by the people who assist you during your journey.

Here is a suggested tipping list:

Driver – full day             $3-5 per person per day.

Driver – transfer           $1-3 per person per day.

Tour guide – full day     $15-20 per person per day.

Tour guide – half day    $10-15 per person per day.

Representative / tour leader    $3-5 per person per day.

Standard & Deluxe Nile cruise crew    $5–10 per person per night paid at the end of the cruise.

Cancellation Policy

We do not charge cancellation fees for tours canceled due to ‘force majeure’ events such as natural disasters or other uncontrollable circumstances. However, if you cancel for personal or business reasons after we have incurred booking costs on your behalf, these costs will be charged to you.

  • From the date of booking up to 75 days before the date of your arrival, 15% of the total tour price will be charged.
  • Between 74 and 61 days before your arrival date, 25% of the total tour price will be charged.
  • Between 60 and 30 days before your arrival date, 50% of the total tour price will be charged.
  • Between 29 and 15 days before your arrival date, 75% of the total tour price will be charged.
  • Between 14 and 08 days before your arrival date, 95% of the total tour price will be charged.
  • Between 07 and 1 day before your arrival date, 100% of the total tour price will be charged.

Deposit and Payment

A deposit between 25-50% is required to secure your booking through a payment link. The remaining balance will also be paid through payment links.

Extra Expenses & Additional Entry Tickets

Our tours do not include entrance fees for special archaeological sites such as:

  • Tombs of Seti I and Ramses V in the Valley of the Kings
  • Entering the Tomb of Tutankhamun in the Valley of the Kings in Luxor.

These attractions require an additional fee. Please contact us if you would like to add or adjust anything in your itinerary.

Other personal expenses during your trip may include:

  • Food tours and alcoholic beverages.
  • Tipping for guides, drivers, and hotel staff.
  • Visa fees and recreational activities.
  • Additional transportation.

What is included in the 4 night Christmas Nile cruise?

Four nights full board on your chosen ship (four breakfasts, four lunches, four dinners), airport pickup and drop-off, all transfers by air-conditioned vehicle, guided touring at every site with a licensed Egyptologist, entrance fees to all listed sites, and all service charges and local taxes. Not included: gratuities, drinks, optional excursions and travel insurance.

Should I choose the 3 night or the 4 night Christmas cruise?

Choose 4 nights if you want the Luxor west bank unhurried. On this itinerary the Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut’s temple and the Colossi of Memnon get a full morning, and Aswan gets a complete day with a free afternoon. The 3 night sailing covers the same temples but compresses the west bank into the disembarkation day. Choose 3 nights if your time is tight or you’re adding the cruise to a Cairo trip.

Why does this cruise sail Luxor to Aswan?

Sailing south works against the current, so the ship moves more slowly and the itinerary runs to four nights. You start on Luxor’s biggest monuments and the trip eases as it goes. Our 3 night cruise sails the opposite direction, north from Aswan, finishing on Luxor rather than opening there. Neither is better — in practice, let your arrival city decide.

Which ship will I sail on?

You choose the class, and the itinerary is identical across all four — same temples, same guide, same sailing days. Standard ships are 3.5-star, Deluxe 4-star, Ultra Deluxe 4.5-star and Luxury 5-star by European and American standards. What changes is the cabin, the dining and the deck space.

Is a gala dinner included?

No. A gala dinner is not included in the price, and most ships sailing at Christmas — Standard and Deluxe in particular — do not serve one. Your evening meals are the full-board dinners included in the price.

Are entrance fees included?

Yes. Entrance fees to every site in the itinerary are included — Karnak, Luxor Temple, the Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut’s temple, the Colossi of Memnon, Edfu, Kom Ombo, the High Dam, the Unfinished Obelisk and Philae. A small number of special-access tickets are charged separately: Tutankhamun’s tomb, the tombs of Seti I and Ramses V, and Abu Simbel.

What is the weather like on the Nile at Christmas?

Does Egypt celebrate Christmas twice?

Yes. December 25th is marked across the country, and Coptic Christmas falls on January 7th, a national holiday observed by Egypt’s Coptic Orthodox Church. The festive season on the Nile runs from mid-December through to it.

Do children get a discount?

Yes. Children under 6 travel free, ages 6 to 11 pay 50% of the adult price, and 12 and over pay the adult rate. Four nights with the ship as a fixed base and a free afternoon in Aswan makes this an easier itinerary with children than a land tour.

Can I visit Abu Simbel on this cruise?

Yes, as an optional excursion by road from Aswan, usually arranged around your Day 5 departure. It’s an early start and a long day out, and it’s charged separately — tell us when you book so the timing works with your onward flight.

How far in advance should I book?

Three to six months where possible. Christmas is the busiest week of the Nile cruise season and the better ships and cabin categories sell out first — we’d suggest securing festive departures by September or October.

Where does the cruise start and end?

It starts in Luxor and ends in Aswan. We meet you at Luxor International Airport, and after Day 4 in Aswan you’re transferred to Aswan airport or the railway station. Transfers from Cairo or the Red Sea can be added.
