Your 3 night Nile cruise from Aswan to Luxor begins the moment you land. Your Egyptologist guide meets you at Aswan airport, railway station, or your hotel, and the touring starts before you even see your ship.
First comes the High Dam, the engineering project that reshaped modern Egypt and created Lake Nasser behind it. Then, a short boat ride carries you to Agilkia Island and the Temple of Philae, dedicated to Isis — a temple that was moved, stone by stone, to save it from the rising lake. Your last stop is the granite quarries and the Unfinished Obelisk, still lying where its carvers abandoned it three thousand years ago. A crack appeared, and they simply walked away. Had it been raised, it would have been the largest obelisk in Egypt.
Then it’s time to board. Settle into your cabin, have lunch, and spend the late afternoon on the sun deck watching feluccas cross the river. If you’d like to see more of Aswan, an optional evening visit to a Nubian village can be arranged.

The morning is yours. Sleep in, enjoy a slow breakfast on board, or — if you’re willing to start early — join the optional excursion to Abu Simbel, the two rock temples Ramses II carved into a mountainside near the Sudanese border. Most guests who add it say it was the highlight of their trip.
Around midday the ship casts off and sails north. This first stretch of river is the quietest of the route: palm groves, fishermen, kids waving from the banks. In the afternoon you dock at Kom Ombo, where the temple stands right at the water’s edge. It’s an unusual building — perfectly symmetrical, with two entrances and two sanctuaries, because it served two gods at once: Sobek the crocodile god and Horus the Elder. The small Crocodile Museum next door displays mummified crocodiles found nearby, and it takes ten minutes that are well worth it.
Back on board, the ship continues toward Edfu while you have dinner.

An early start, and a fun one: horse-drawn carriages carry you from the dock through Edfu’s morning streets to the Temple of Horus, the best-preserved temple in all of Egypt. Its roof is intact, its walls are covered floor to ceiling in reliefs, and standing in its dim inner halls is the closest you’ll come to seeing a temple as ancient Egyptians did.
Then comes a full day of sailing — many guests’ favorite part of the cruise. Along the way the ship passes through the Esna Lock, where the Nile drops several meters and vessels queue for their turn; it’s worth being on deck for it, as vendors row up alongside the waiting ships to toss scarves and galabeyas up for sale, negotiating by shout.
You reach Luxor in the afternoon for the East Bank: first Karnak, the largest religious complex ever built, added to by pharaoh after pharaoh for two thousand years, then Luxor Temple nearby. Both were dedicated to the Theban Triad — Amun, Mut, and Khonsu.

Your final morning is the biggest one. If you’ve booked the optional sunrise hot air balloon, you’ll float over the West Bank at dawn before rejoining the group.
After breakfast and disembarkation, you cross to the West Bank and the Valley of the Kings, where the pharaohs of the New Kingdom were buried in tombs cut deep into the rock. Sixty-five tombs have been found so far; your ticket covers three, and your guide will steer you to the best ones open that day. From there you continue to the terraced Temple of Hatshepsut, built for the woman who ruled Egypt as pharaoh for twenty years, and finish with a photo stop at the Colossi of Memnon — two seated giants, eighteen meters tall, that once guarded a vanished temple.
