See the Pyramids in the morning and the treasures that came from them in the afternoon. This private Grand Egyptian Museum and Giza Pyramids tour pairs the last standing wonder of the ancient world with the largest archaeological museum ever built, only 2 km apart. Your own Egyptologist and air-conditioned car collect you from your Cairo or Giza hotel. You stand beside the Great Pyramid and the Sphinx, then walk through 7,000 years of history, ending with the complete Tutankhamun collection. Entry tickets are included, and you are back at your hotel by late afternoon.
The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) was built on the edge of the Giza Plateau, so that from its Grand Staircase you look straight out at the pyramids. Doing both sites on the same day makes sense:
No wasted driving. The two sites are about 5 minutes apart, so you spend your day seeing things, not sitting in Cairo traffic.
The story fits together. In the morning you see the tombs the pharaohs built, and in the afternoon you see the statues, boats, and gold that went with them.
The best timing for each site. Your guide plans the Giza Plateau for the cooler morning light and the indoor, air-conditioned museum for the hot afternoon.
Private means your pace. No group to wait for and no fixed schedule. Stay longer with Tutankhamun, or skip what you are less interested in.
8:00 – Hotel pickup
Your private Egyptologist and driver meet you in the lobby of your hotel in Cairo or Giza. On the drive, your guide gives you a short introduction to the Old Kingdom, the age of the pyramid builders, so you know what you are about to see. Pickup times are flexible; we can start earlier to beat the heat and the crowds.
8:45 – The Great Pyramid of Khufu
Start at the largest pyramid in Egypt, built around 2560 BC for King Khufu. It was originally about 146 m tall, and for almost 4,000 years it was the tallest building made by people. Your guide explains how the blocks were cut and moved, and what archaeologists have learned from the workers’ village found nearby. If you would like to go inside, you can buy an extra ticket to climb up the narrow passage to the King’s Chamber (not included).
10:00 – Khafre and Menkaure Pyramids
See the Pyramid of Khafre, which looks taller because it stands on higher ground and still has some of its original smooth limestone casing at the top. Then see the smaller Pyramid of Menkaure, with its lower layers of red granite, and the three Queens’ Pyramids beside it.
10:45 – The Panoramic Viewpoint
Drive a short way into the desert to the viewpoint for the famous photo of all nine pyramids together. This is the best place for an optional short camel or horse ride (not included). Your guide will arrange a fair price for you.
11:30 – The Valley Temple and the Great Sphinx
Walk through the Valley Temple of Khafre, built from huge granite blocks, where the king’s body was prepared before burial. Leave the temple to come face to face with the Great Sphinx, about 73 m long and 20 m high, carved from one piece of the limestone bedrock. Your guide will show you the best spots for photos.
12:30 – Lunch break
Stop for lunch at a local restaurant near the pyramids or at the museum’s cafés and restaurants (lunch not included). Your guide can recommend a place with a view of the pyramids.
13:30 – The Grand Egyptian Museum
Enter the Grand Egyptian Museum, which has more than 100,000 objects and opened fully to visitors in November 2025. In the Grand Hall, see the colossal statue of Ramses II that once stood in central Cairo. Climb the Grand Staircase past around 60 statues of kings, queens and gods, arranged by period, to the large window at the top that looks out at the pyramids.
14:30 – The Tutankhamun Galleries
Spend the rest of the visit with the boy king. For the first time since Howard Carter opened the tomb in 1922, all of Tutankhamun’s more than 5,000 objects are shown together in one place: the golden mask, his nested golden coffins, his chariots, his throne, his beds, his weapons and even his sandals. Your guide explains what each object tells us about his short life and his journey to the afterlife. If time allows, you can also see the main galleries, which follow Egypt’s history from prehistory to the Roman period.
16:30 – Return to your hotel
Your driver takes you back to your hotel in Cairo or Giza, where the tour ends.
