5 Day Cairo & Sharm El-Sheikh New Year Tour Package

One night in Cairo, three nights in Sharm El-Sheikh, the New Year’s Eve gala dinner, a full guided day at the Giza pyramids and the Grand Egyptian Museum with a licensed Egyptologist, the domestic flight from Cairo to Sharm, all transfers by private vehicle, and all entrance fees to the sites in the itinerary. International flights and the $30 entry visa are not included. 

Included, always. We price festive tours as festive tours rather than adding a surcharge to a standard package, so the gala dinner is in the price you are quoted and never appears on your bill at the hotel. Many operators do the opposite — it is worth checking before you compare prices. 

It depends on your arrival date. Arrive on 31 December and you see in the New Year in Cairo; arrive earlier and the gala falls at your Sharm El-Sheikh resort. Either way the gala dinner is included, and your final itinerary confirms which before you travel.

One night in Cairo and three nights in Sharm El-Sheikh. The Cairo night is short by design: you fly out to the coast on day two, straight after the pyramids and the Grand Egyptian Museum, which puts the bulk of the holiday on the Red Sea. 

For the Giza plateau and the Grand Egyptian Museum, yes, and those are the two things most visitors come for. It is not enough for Coptic Cairo, Saqqara, Memphis or Khan el-Khalili. If you want those, add a night or two in Cairo before the Sharm leg and we will build it in — that is a better answer than compressing them into an afternoon. 

Yes, the one-way domestic flight from Cairo to Sharm El-Sheikh is in the price. It takes about an hour. The tour ends at Sharm El-Sheikh International Airport, so you book your international departure from Sharm rather than Cairo.

Private. Your Cairo sightseeing day uses your own Egyptologist guide, driver and air-conditioned vehicle, and all transfers are private. Every tour we run under seven days is private as standard, with no upgrade fee. 

As much or as little as you want. Days three and four are deliberately unscheduled. The reef at most resorts starts a few metres offshore, so snorkelling needs no organising at all. If you want structure, optional excursions include Ras Mohammed National Park by boat, a quad bike desert safari, the Colored Canyon and Dahab, and the Mount Sinai sunrise climb with St Catherine’s Monastery. None are included in the price. 

Because a five-day New Year trip that schedules every morning is a worse holiday than one that does not. You get the pyramids properly guided, and then three days with nothing you are obliged to do. If you would rather have a fuller program, tell us and we will add excursions before you travel.

Daytime temperatures usually sit in the low twenties Celsius, which is why the resorts fill up in January. The sea stays swimmable, though many people prefer a shorty wetsuit for longer snorkelling. Evenings are noticeably cooler and the wind off the water has a bite — bring something warm for the gala dinner if it falls at the resort. 

Yes. Red Sea water temperatures in late December and early January are cooler than in summer but comfortable for most swimmers, and the visibility is often better than at the height of the season. Resorts hire wetsuits if you feel the cold. What standard are the hotels? 

Most nationalities can buy a visa on arrival at Cairo Airport for $30, paid in cash, or apply for an e-visa online in advance. Your passport should be valid for at least six months beyond your arrival date. Our representative assists with the formalities at the airport. 

The single supplement is 70% of the twin-share rate, and the single-room price in the table above already includes it. 

This itinerary includes a domestic flight, so the flight-inclusive scale applies: ages 0 to 2 pay 30% of the adult price, 3 to 5 pay 40%, 6 to 11 pay 50%, and 12 and over pay the adult rate. The difference is the airline ticket, which we buy at the carrier’s own child rates. 

It suits families well. One structured day is easier on young children than a week of early starts, the Sharm resorts are set up for children, and the flight to the coast avoids a long drive. Tell us the ages when you enquire and we will pick the resort accordingly.

Early. Domestic flights over the New Year period sell out before the hotels do, and festive rates at the Sharm resorts rise as availability tightens. If you are considering these dates, securing the flight is the part that cannot be fixed later. 

Yes, and it is a common request. Extra nights on the Red Sea, a return to Cairo for Coptic and Islamic Cairo, or an onward leg to Luxor and Aswan all work. Ask before you book so we build it in rather than adding it afterwards. 

Yes. Sharm is a purpose-built resort town on the Sinai coast, heavily geared to international visitors and well policed. Your transfers are private and your representative is contactable throughout your stay.
