Dendera & Abydos Tour From Hurghada

Explore the wonders of Dendera and Abydos with our Hurghada day tours. Your tour to Dendera & Abydos from Hurghada begins when our tour guide picks you up from your hotel.

Temple of Dendera

Your first stop of your tour to Dendera & Abydos from Hurghada will be at Dendera Temple. Dendera is just 55 km north of Luxor. It was known as Tnatre, and it was the capital city of the sixth Nome of Upper Egypt in ancient times.

The complex of Dendera prominently features the temple of the goddess Hathor. This temple stands as one of the most well-preserved antiquity sites in Egypt today and exemplifies traditional Pharaonic architecture. Built primarily during the Ptolemaic Dynasty, a period of Greek rule in Egypt, the Temple of Hathor was completed under the Roman Emperor Trajan, who is depicted on the walls of the complex making offerings to Hathor.

Trajan and Domitian, Roman emperors, constructed a monumental gateway in the temple complex. The Dendera Temple is popular for its astronomical scenes on the ceilings, crypts, and the Egyptian Zodiac on the top floor. While a replica of the zodiac is displayed at the temple, the original resides in the Louvre Museum in Paris.

Temple of Abydos:

Then, your Tour to Dendera and Aydos from Hurghada, takes you to AbydosIn the holy city of Abydos, the cult center of the god Osiris, you will visit the amazing Temple of pharaoh Seti I (1323-1279 BC). This temple is unique in its design among the Egyptian temples which takes the form of the letter L. The temple was dedicated to seven various deities, Osiris, Isis, Horus, Amun, Re-Horakhty, Ptah, and Seti I as a deity.

The temple divides into three sections. Seti I entirely constructed and decorated the rear segment, which includes seven chapels dedicated to the gods of the temple. The middle section contains the temple’s Hypostyles, constructed by Seti I and decorated by his son, Ramses II. Ramses II entirely built the third section, which is now completely damaged. A significant historical scene in the temple is the Kings List of Abydos, listing 72 kings.

Pharaoh Merenptah built the Osirion, located just behind Seti I’s temple, as a tomb for one part of the body of Osiris after the god Seth dismembered it.

You will conclude your tour to Dendera & Abydos from Hurghada with a transfer back to your hotel in Hurghada.
