Cairo trip from El-Alamein to Giza Pyramids

Your first stop of your Cairo trip from Alexandria is at Giza Plateau. Giza Plateau, the site of the necropolis of the 4th Dynasty. It is located just outside of the outskirts of Cairo on the esplanade known as the Giza Plateau, the Great Pyramids of Giza are the must-see Ancient Egyptian landmark. Known as Khufu’s Pyramid, it is the greatest pyramid of the complex: a truly overwhelming sight. Being one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, it is the only one still standing to this day! When gazing at this colossal structure, there’s no way to escape the feeling of being dwarfed. The two smaller – but still huge – pyramids at Giza are those of Khafre and Menkaure. A few steps to the east you will notice three small (20 m high) piles of rubble: the queens’ pyramids, and tombs of Khufu’s wives and sisters.

A causeway slopes down to the giant Sphinx. The Sphinx is a mythical creature with the head of a human, a Falcon, a Cat, or a Sheep, and the body of a lion with the wings of an Eagle. In Greek tradition, the Sphinx has the head of a woman, the haunches of a Lion, and the wings of a bird.

Egyptian Museum

Enjoy your lunch at a local restaurant. Then, your Cairo trip from El-Alamein takes you to the Egyptian Museum. The Egyptian Museum is the oldest archaeological museum in the Middle East and houses the largest collection of Pharaonic antiquities in the world. The museum displays an extensive collection spanning from the Predynastic Period to the Greco-Roman Era. The Museum is home to some of the world’s most magnificent ancient masterpieces.

Among the museum’s unrivaled the complete burials of Yuya and Thuya,  and the Narmer Palette commemorating the unification of Upper and Lower Egypt under one king, which is also among the museum’s invaluable artifacts. The museum also houses the splendid statues of the great kings Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure, the builders of the pyramids at the Giza plateau. An extensive collection of papyri, sarcophagi, and jewelry, among other objects, completes this uniquely expansive museum.

If the time permits, you will visit the largest bazaar in the middle east of Khan El-Khalili. Then, conclude your Cairo trip from El-Alamein with a transfer back to your hotel in El-Alamein.
