Twenty-three to twenty-seven hours from Auckland with one stop, usually in Dubai, Doha or Singapore. There are no direct flights. Most itineraries land in Cairo between late morning and mid-afternoon, which is why our tours begin with an arrival day and start sightseeing the next morning.
Yes, and it is easy: a 30-day tourist visa on arrival at Cairo airport for US$30 in cash, or an e-visa applied for online before you fly at the same price. Your passport must be valid for six months from your arrival date. Our representative meets you before the visa counter and helps.
Ten to fourteen days for most people. Eight days is the shortest that covers Cairo and a Nile cruise comfortably; longer trips add the Red Sea, Alexandria or the White Desert.
October to April, which coincides with the NZ summer and the April school holidays. The Christmas and New Year period is Egypt’s busiest and should be booked months ahead. The September–October school holidays are an excellent and often overlooked option.
They are in US dollars, the currency Egyptian hotels and cruise ships use. Your card converts at the day’s rate; as a guide, US$1,000 is roughly NZ$1,650 to NZ$1,750 at recent rates.
Tours of six days and under are private. Tours of seven days and over run as small groups of no more than 16, and any of them can be made private on request.
The tourist areas, Cairo, Luxor, Aswan, the Nile cruise route and the Red Sea resorts, are well policed and heavily visited, and our guides and drivers are with you throughout. Check the New Zealand government’s SafeTravel advisory before you book, as we would for any destination, and ask us directly about anything that concerns you.
Easily. Because every route from New Zealand connects through the Gulf or Singapore, a stopover in Dubai or Doha costs nothing extra in flight time, and many travellers add a week in Europe on the way back. Our six- and seven-day tours are built for exactly this.
Hotels and the Nile cruise, domestic flights inside Egypt, an Egyptologist guide on touring days, all transfers in private air-conditioned vehicles, entrance fees to the sites on the itinerary, meet-and-greet at Cairo airport, and the meals listed on each tour page. International flights, the visa, tips and travel insurance are not included.
