Trips With Time Built In

A Holiday, Not a Tour

There is a difference between seeing Egypt and having a holiday in Egypt, and it is worth being clear about which one you want.

A tour is built around sites. You are up early, you cover a lot, and you go home tired and full of things you have seen. That is the right trip for many people, and we run plenty of them.

A holiday is built around time. You still see the Pyramids and the temples, but the itinerary leaves room around them: a few days on the Red Sea, or in Siwa, or on a boat, where nothing is scheduled and nobody wakes you at six. Most of the trips on this page spend half their nights in one place.

If you want to see the maximum in the days you have, our Egypt tour packages will serve you better. If you want to come home rested, stay here.

    Fantastic

Great tour. Our guide Essam was excellent. He was very knowledgeable and articulated the tour well. Offering our group good advice on how to customize our tour based on our interests. He was sure to warn us on all potential scams aswell as unnecessary/non affiliated persons. He also went above by making our restaurant reservations for us.

  • Shruti VF
    Lifetime memories made

We enjoyed our Egypt travels through Egypt Best Vacations. Essam is the best tour coordinator and guide one can find! I am so glad we found him because he made our trip memorable in so many ways! He was always able to make the tours fun by telling us stories of the past in engaging ways! He was always helpful and gave us honest guidance regarding all local experiences eg. How to behave with street vendors. You felt you could trust him and rely on him fully through the travel!

Related FAQs About Egypt Holiday Packages

Most Asked Questions about Egypt Holidays & Trips

What is the difference between an Egypt holiday and an Egypt tour?

Pace, mostly. A tour is organized around sites and covers as many as the days allow. A holiday keeps the famous sites but builds rest around them, usually by spending several nights in one place — the Red Sea, Siwa, or a Nile cruise. If you want to see the most possible in the time you have, take a tour. If you want to come home rested rather than tired, take a holiday.

How much does an Egypt holiday cost?

Our Egypt holidays run from $1,015 to $2,530 per person for six to nine days, and the range covers two different products. Standard group holidays start at $1,015. Our Slow holidays are private and use Luxury tier hotels, which puts them at roughly twice the price of the group version of the same route. International flights are not included. Every quote is itemized before you pay.

What is a slow travel holiday in Egypt?

It is a private holiday in luxury hotels, at a deliberately unhurried pace. Three things separate it from our standard group holidays. It is private, so you travel with your own guide, driver and vehicle and no other guests. It uses our Luxury tier accommodation, 5-star luxury (5 stars in Europe and the USA), rather than the standard and deluxe hotels on group departures. And the itinerary is built around fewer sites per day and more nights in each place. That combination is why a slow holiday costs around twice the group equivalent of the same route.

Which Egypt holiday is best for a first visit?

Cairo with the Red Sea, over seven or eight days. You get the Pyramids, the Sphinx and the Grand Egyptian Museum in the first half, then time on the coast in the second. If you would rather see Luxor and Aswan than sit on a beach, take the Cairo and Nile cruise holiday instead — it covers more ancient Egypt in the same number of days.

Hurghada or Sharm El-Sheikh: which is better?

They suit different trips. Hurghada is closer to Luxor, so it combines easily with the Nile Valley, and it has more choice at the lower end. Sharm El-Sheikh has the better diving — Ras Mohammed and the Straits of Tiran are among the best reef sites in the world — and it feels more contained. Sharm is reached by flight from Cairo; Hurghada by flight or by road. For a first Egypt holiday with beach time, either works. For serious snorkelling or diving, choose Sharm.

What is there to do in Siwa Oasis?

Not very much, which is the point. Siwa sits eight hours west of Cairo near the Libyan border, with palm groves, salt lakes you float in, the mudbrick ruins of Shali fortress, and the Temple of the Oracle where Alexander the Great came to be recognised as a pharaoh. There are no crowds and very little to schedule. It suits travellers who have seen the classics, or who want somewhere genuinely quiet.

Do your Egypt holidays include a Nile cruise?

One of them does — the eight-day Cairo and Nile cruise holiday, which sails between Luxor and Aswan. The rest of the holidays on this page are built around the Red Sea, Siwa or Alexandria instead. If a cruise is what you want, our Egypt tours with Nile cruise page has many more options.

Are your Egypt holidays private or small group?

Both, depending which you book. Our standard holidays are small group, capped at sixteen travelers — well below the forty-plus coach tours common in Egypt. Our Slow holidays are private as standard. Any group holiday on this page can also be booked privately for an additional charge, and we will quote both side by side so you can compare.

What is included in an Egypt holiday package?

Airport meet-and-assist and all transfers, accommodation, a licensed Egyptologist guide, entrance fees to the sites on your itinerary, daily breakfast plus the meals listed in your day plan, and domestic flights where the route requires them. Not included: international flights, your entry visa, drinks and personal spending, and tipping.

What hotel standard do your Egypt holidays use

Two tiers on group holidays: Gold is 5-star standard (3.5 stars in Europe and the USA) and Platinum is 5-star deluxe (4 stars in Europe and the USA). Our Slow holidays use Luxury tier, 5-star luxury (5 stars in Europe and the USA). Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism licenses nearly every hotel and cruise ship in this class as 5-star, so we publish the Western equivalent next to it rather than leaving you to guess. We confirm the exact property before you pay.

When is the best time for an Egypt holiday?

October to April for Cairo, Luxor and Siwa, when the days are comfortable for sightseeing. The Red Sea is different — Hurghada and Sharm El-Sheikh are pleasant most of the year, and the sea stays warm through the winter, so a summer holiday that pairs a short Cairo stay with a longer coastal one works well when a full land itinerary would not.

Are Egypt holidays suitable for families?

Yes, and the shape of a holiday suits children better than a touring itinerary does. Fewer sites per day, more time in one hotel, and a pool at the end of the afternoon make a considerable difference. Our Cairo and Siwa family holiday is built around this. Tell us your children’s ages and we will adjust the daily schedule.

Do your Egypt holidays include domestic flights?

Yes. Where the route needs them — Cairo to Sharm El-Sheikh, for example, or Cairo to Luxor. Siwa is reached by road, because there is no airport. Your itinerary lists exactly which internal transport is included.

Can I customize an Egypt holiday?

Yes. Add nights on the coast, swap Hurghada for Sharm, add Luxor or a Nile cruise, upgrade the hotels, or extend the trip. Tell us how you want the holiday to feel and we will build it rather than fitting you into a fixed package.
